Keto Friendly Alcohol Drinks & Low Carb Cocktails

In Diet, Information, Lifestyle, Meal Plan & Prep

A frequent question received at Keto Macros is “What to do about alcohol and is it okay on a ketogenic diet?”

Alcohol is embedded into our culture and the consumption of it takes place in many forms and occasions.  Whether it be a business dinner, holiday celebration, or even a Friday happy hour with friends, it is pervasive and offers opportunity to derail even the most ardent low carb dieter.   So, what is the avid Keto Macros follower to do when they find themselves in such a situation and not wanting to wreck their macro calculations while looking for keto friendly alcohol options?

Fortunately, it’s possible to enjoy limited Alcohol and maintain a keto diet plan

Keto Macros is a long term way of life for us and completely abstaining from alcohol isn’t what we are looking for.  We aren’t advocating the strictest interpretation and ruleset of a low carb diet, but one rooted into a lifestyle change that is a long term solution.  Our ketogenic macro calculations allow for the inclusion of enough carbs to still enjoy a drink and eat normally.

Fad diets come and go, Keto Macros isn’t a proponent of those.  We’re here as a healthy lifestyle movement and believe that enjoying a keto friendly alcoholic beverage can absolutely be a part of that.  There are plenty of low and zero carb alcohol drink options that span the spectrum of libations.

Here are a few of our favorite keto friendly alcohol drinks.

Keto Friendly Alcohol Rum Drink

Sugar Free Margarita – Is there a more perfect pairing to Taco Tuesday than a low carb margarita?  We sure don’t think so.  Conjure up on with some Baja Bob’s Sugar Free Margarita Mix, Orange Extract, Anejo Tequila, and a healthy squeeze of fresh lime.  You’ll be hard pressed to notice a difference and it can be mixed up by the pitcher.

Low Carb Dark n’ Stormy – ideal for a warm summer day or a Sunday fun day.  Mix up sugar free ginger beer, lime, and your favorite dark rum for a refreshing drink without the carbs.

Keto-Jito – This one is remarkably simple and perfect for a pool or beachside sipping.  To craft a superb Keto Macros Mojito start with muddling lime wedges and mint leaves in a cocktail glass.  Next pour in white rum, ice, Splenda, give a healthy stir and top off with soda water.  Use of the Baja Bob’s mix is also an acceptable substitute.  Ketogenic Mojitos that can be enjoyed and shared with friends who won’t even notice they are “low carb cocktails.”

Beer – It is possible to fit beer into your macros, but it’s not going to be the tasty IPA from your local brewery. Sticking with a light lager, or surprisingly a Guinness, is the safest bet.  Low carb beer doesn’t have to be boring, but you do have to pay extra close attention.  If you have the itch for some hops and want to keep your MyFitnessPal macros happy, go with a Session IPA.  Finding keto friendly alcohol and beers isn’t always easy, but it’s well worth the effort.

Red Wine – Steering clear of dessert wines and sweet whites will keep you on track and allow you to enjoy some healthy glasses of vino.  A good Pinot Noir or Red Zinfandel are great choices and come with under 5 carbs per serving.  Wine is a great low carb alcohol option that is readily available and availability in thousands of varieties.

Skinny Sangria – She’s a real crowd pleaser… Red wine, club soda, limes, and flavored vodka give this low carb sangria all the flavor without the added sugar.  Optimally mixed up by the pitcher and served for a BBQ or backyard hangout.  This is another fantastic option for sharing with non ketogenic dieters as they won’t tell the difference!

Catalina Rum Punch – Remarkably simple and easy drinking, this one is a summer time staple for us.  Meeting your macros while sipping on a tropical keto friendly alcohol drink is perfection.  Spiced rum, diet sprite, and lime juice mixed over ice and garnished with a lime, quick and easy full of flavor.

Keto Macro Mimosas – Brunch with friends calls for mimosas.  Keep it Keto Macros friendly by mixing Crystal Light Orange and dry champagne for a low carb mimosa.  Sure to please the whole crew – even if they aren’t avoiding the sugar devil.  Keto friendly mimosas round out the ideal low carb breakfast!  Pairs perfect with our Jicama & Radish Hash Brownes.
